Design Computation within Cinema 4D and FusionThing
May 24th, 2008
My latest explorations find myself looking through the latest works that use Paracloud as iterative geometry generation. It seems that this should be the perfect task for fusionThing (fT) a Cinema 4D plug-in to be more than capable.
I call this one FusionThing Iterative Components. All made from a cylinder, and a modified component geometry from Steve’s greeble tutorial to illustrate how FusionThing can operate in the generative component pedagogy. It happens to be a larger part of the new Architecture of Design Computation.
I will post what I explore with FusionThing in this quest, please post your examples done with either FusionThing by Steve Baines, Lots of Pixels Ltd. or Paracloud by Dr. Eyal Nir.
Feel free to discuss the possibilities.

Custom Draw Items.
With SpeedMud you will create some new kind of “Item” during the
tracing, this special item are not real Object s displayed in Cinema4D
Object Manager but are temporary elements that help user to work
correctly during the tracing phase.
Here a list of SpeedMud Custom Item:
Tracing points : all user’s Click in editor view create a new tracing point,
this is a temporary point of new Polygon/Spline SpeedMud will create at
the end of tracing operation.
Tracing lines : connect all tracing points, in tracing order; in some special
construction case (Outlined Construction) some tracing line are created
without Tracing points.
Draw plane : is one of much important item to draw correctly with
SpeedMud; Draw Plane can be placed everywhere in the space and can
have a standard preset orientation or custom orientation defined by three
points. If you don’t specify any normal “Offset” from the Draw plane,
all tracing points will be created on Draw plane, this elements is very
important to define where you can draw and how is oriented coordinate
system. Draw plane is visible when SpeedMud tools are used by an
oriented grid.; this grid substitute the standard Cinema4D grid, for this
reason you can see grid deactivated automatically during tools use.
Draw icon: is a tri axis colored icon and help you with draw plane grid to
know how the coordinate system is oriented. If any Trace point is placed
in the scene for this tracing session Draw icons will be placed the origin
of coordinate, otherwise is placed on last created Trace point .
Hot spot: is a special point (green on the screen) by default created on
last traced point; you can place Hotspot on every each point in your
scene and you can have no more than tow Hotspot at the same time.
From Hotspots SpeedMud will trace Dynamic

To create geometry with SpeedMud you have to click in viewport to
describe the shape you need to create.
During tracing you can chose some option for geometry you will generate
in according with tool you have selected.
Some construction issue can be set directly in manager, some other (
for example arch during Draw Poly) can be called from Context Menu
in Viewport ( to open Context Menu you have to hold Shift and click in
editor view); context menu will be explained in depth in next pages.
Basically you can Draw a simple Filled and Flat Ngon by selecting Filled
in pull down menu, otherwise you can create an outlined, by using outline
mode and choosing an outline distance different from 0.
Outline distance can be positive or negative with this choice you can
define if outlined is inner or extern form the traced contour.
For each shape you draw you can choose if you want a simple flat Ngon
or a extruded geometry by selecting Flat or PostExtrude Option; With
PostExtrude after shape closing you have to click strata and end point of
extrusion distance, this mean you can create a reference to other object
in the scene by using SpeedMud Snapping ( useful to model on vector
draw like florplan and elevation or with blueprint).
The Curve Subdivision Parameter control the number of point will be
created on curved part of you shape, with SpeedMud you can draw
mixed shape for polygon and spline.

hey,I find out that your web site is really educational and helpful and we were interested if there is really a possibility of getting More web content like this on your site. If you willing to support us out, we can be willing to compensate you… Kind regards, Jannet Solina
